Radio Drama Revival

Showcasing the diversity and vitality of modern audio drama

Escape Pod’s 200th Episode – Heinlein’s All You Zombies

July 7, 2009 By Fred

Escape Pod Sci Fi PodcastFulfilling a call to action from this week’s Escape Pod, I must encourage you to check out the show’s 200th episode, which features a story by Robert Heinlein. Heinlein is far and away my most beloved of science fiction authors (though in tight competition with Philip K Dick and Ray Bradbury), and the story, “All You Zombies,” is a mind-bendingly brilliant tale of paradox and time travel. Reminiscent of the short story of his that was adapted for the 2000x series, By His Bootstraps.

If you’re a big fan of audio drama I hope your passion extends to audio fiction. I’ll elaborate on this more as I start to spend time on different podcasts I’ve fallen in love with, but the podcastophere is rich with well told audio right now.

Podcasts like EscapePod, which produces killer short stories and compensates the authors properly, are doing more for storytelling than the publishing industry has in the last decade. As much as I can love audiobooks (your mileage may vary), I think the short fiction podcast form is an even closer match to the tastes of us short-fiction craving audio drama enthusiasts.

So, congrats Escape Pod, 200 freakin’ episodes! Radio Drama Revival has over a year to go. I hope that by the time we get there the show is even a tenth as kick-ass as your weekly sci-fi injection.

Go Listen to Heinlein’s “All You Zombies”

Hat tip to SFF Audio which turned me on to this very exciting episode.
